NTN at the Roots & Roofs Exhibition

The National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Nigeria and CBAAC, proudly presented WHEN WALLS REMEMBER at the Roots & Roofs Exhibition held at the KolaNut Gallery, Asokoro, Abuja.

This captivating one-movement dance oratorio fused dance, music, narration, and indigenous performance traditions to celebrate Africa's rich architectural heritage and explore the enduring connections between architecture, culture, community, and memory. Inspired by the Roots & Roofs: Pan-African Indigenous Skills Development (PAID) Programme, the performance transformed research into a powerful artistic experience that resonated with audiences. By journeying through iconic African cultural spaces—from the Yoruba 'Àgbo Ilé' and Northern Nigerian 'Zaure' to the royal courtyards of Benin, the Igbo 'Obi', the Vunon festival grounds, and the Tiv 'Agbajen'—the production highlighted how indigenous architecture preserves identity, traditions, and communal values across generations.

The performance drew artists,diplomats, academics, cultural practitioners, and exhibition visitors, fostering meaningful conversations about heritage preservation, indigenous knowledge, and contemporary African identity. This successful collaboration between NTN, Goethe-Institut Nigeria, Embassy of Ireland, The British Council, Embassy of Spain, and CBAAC reaffirmed a shared commitment to promoting and preserving Africa's cultural legacy through the performing arts.
